When you hear that “Jesus is Alive,” what concept or imagery comes to your mind? Do your thoughts instantly drift back 2,000 years to the empty tomb? Do you picture church plays depicting the clothing and culture of ancient Jerusalem? Do you think about Jesus’ appearance to the disciples when Thomas touched His wounds? Or do you think about Jesus—the man—still living, walking, thinking, and talking today?
There’s nothing wrong with remembering the history. The problem is simply that many of our minds stay there.
Jesus rose from the dead, and He is still physically alive in human form today! It’s so easy to forget that He is a living, breathing man who is no longer standing on this earth but is rather physically seated at the right hand of Father God in heaven. It’s not a mere concept; it’s reality.
Jesus rose from the dead, and He never died again. He’s still alive! Can I say it any other way? We’re not talking about Him being alive in some spiritual or metaphysical sense; we’re talking about an actual human being who stood on this earth 2,000 years ago, was killed through crucifixion, rose to life by the power of the Holy Spirit, physically flew into heaven 40 days later in the presence of many witnesses, and is still right now seated in the heavenly realms, actively involved in our lives.
I’ll leave you today with a few Scriptures that remind us of Jesus’s present-day ministry as He continues to play an active role in our lives:
Hebrews 7:23–25 – Now there have been many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office; but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. (NIV) Revelation 1:12–18 – I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me. And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands, and among the lampstands was someone “like a son of man,” dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest. His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters. In his right hand he held seven stars, and out of his mouth came a sharp double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance. When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades…” (NIV) Mark 16:19–20 – After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it. (NIV)
Jesus is alive!
